Who We Are

We are therapists. We are married (not to each other).
And we are obsessed with relationships.

  • Co-Founder

I am obsessed with relationships, I find them fascinating: how we connect, communicate, and protect ourselves, along with the dance between individuality and coupledom. To learn as much as I could about relationships I became a therapist, pursued a lot of continuing education, learned from my clients, and used my own experience as a flawed human in her own relationship. I have seen firsthand how strong preparation can transform a couple’s future or get them back on track. I co-founded MarriageTalks to make expert premarital counseling approachable, convenient, and personalized for today’s couples, giving you the foundational elements of a good marriage in a way that is accessible for you. My passion is helping partners build deep understanding of themself and their partner, effective communication, and lasting connection before they say “I do.”

Few evening plans appeal to me more than a good glass of wine and an article about couple’s therapy technique and theory. Emily and I are certified nerds in our field and we bond over this.

Couple’s therapy is a powerful process. I find it is an honor to help the couples in my office express themselves with greater authenticity and to receive their partner with deeper listening.

Engagement is a tricky and delightful time. Not every couple is looking for therapy during this period of their lives and I get that! Co-founding Marriage Talks has been about providing the benefits of talking about difficult topics and practicing communication in a custom DIY format. We hope this content is accessible, useful, and that increases relationship satisfaction and longevity.

Our Story

When Emily and her husband Teddy starting talking about marriage, things got complicated. They knew each other well after years of dating. What they didn’t know much about… was being married to each other. They had never done it before! “What is marriage? How will marriage change our lives? Do we want kids? How many? Who is invited to the wedding?”

So Teddy, being a nerdy robotics engineer, created a list of topics in an Excel sheet to better understand marriage and to organize and guide their conversations. Meanwhile as a couple’s therapist, Emily came across a compelling paper about “Sliding versus Deciding” in relationships. The paper showed better outcomes for couples that talked about the hard stuff to make conscious decisions about the lives they built with their partner, rather than “sliding” with momentum into the next big life steps without intentionality. So they called it Marriage Talks. They sat down with their topics and discussed over many months. If you saw Emily and Teddy together in Cambridge at a coffee shop or sitting in the grass during that time - they were talking Marriage Talks.

They got married. Happily ever after.

BUT! There was Teddy’s Excel sheet and Emily believed it may help others to have the same conversations she and Teddy have.

Enter Lauren. Emily and Lauren met during their post graduate training and it was a fast friendship. They learned they were both entrepreneurial and equally matched as nerds. Emily pitched Marriage Talks and Lauren was instantly on-board. She used Marriage Talks during her own engagement and added topics and questions based on her experience.

Now, two therapists and a robotics engineer introduce to you … Marriage Talks: A DIY martial counseling program aimed to make hard conversations easier so that love lasts.
